Physical & Movement

Push-Pass Bowling

Push passes at a rack of water-bottle pins. Quiet technique, loud crashes.

10 minSoloOutdoorYou’ll need: stick, ball, plastic bottles

Set three bottles ten steps away. Push-pass (no backswing, ball starts on the stick) to knock them down. Three rounds, count pins, celebrate the personal best.

The parent cue. A push pass is a shove, not a swing. Low hands, long follow-through at the target.

Game Sense

Triangle Keep-Away

Three players, one triangle: move to the open angle before the ball arrives.

10 minSmall groupOutdoorYou’ll need: sticks, ball

Two attackers keep the ball from one defender. The rule for the free attacker: be moving to a new angle before your partner needs you. Rotate the defender every five passes.

The parent cue. The pass is only as good as the angle you offer. Move early, not when called.

Physical & Movement

Flat-Side Maze

Dribble a cone maze using only the flat side of the stick, the sport's clever rule.

10 minSoloOutdoorYou’ll need: field hockey stick or any flat stick, ball, markers

Lay four markers in a crooked line. Dribble through using only the flat side, which means turning the stick over the ball to change direction. Time it, then beat your time with zero misses.

The parent cue. The turn of the stick is the skill. Slow and clean beats fast and chasing the ball.
